Northside Primary School - Achieving and celebrating success where every child matters

RE

R.E at Northside

At  Northside School, Religious Education plays an important role in the spiritual, moral, social and cultural development of each child. Northside School is a multicultural school where all faiths are celebrated and respected.
There are two distinct elements to Religious Education

1. Explicit R.E.
  • The knowledge and understanding of different religious faiths.
 2. Implicit R.E.
  • The exploration of shared experience

The Aims of Religious Education

For pupils to:
  • develop and extend knowledge and understanding of Christianity and other world faiths, and of ethical beliefs.
  • develop an understanding of the influence of beliefs, values and traditions on individuals, communities and societies.
  • enhance and reflect on their own spiritual, moral, social and cultural development.
  • grow in confidence in their own faith and respect those with a faith different from their own.
  • develop a positive attitude to living in a religiously diverse society.
  • develop the ability to make reasoned and informed judgements about religious and moral issues.
Religious Nurture
We believe that the development of a commitment to a particular religious faith is the responsibility of the family and faith community. It is not the role of the school to promote any particular religious standpoint.

Planning
Teachers will use the Agreed Barnet Syllabus as a basis for their planning. The syllabus enables schools to provide an exciting and progressive curriculum to empower everyone to learn from religious and human experience. They will supplement this with school based materials and use the expertise of staff, children and parents when referring to specific faiths.
